Ready to Feel Uncomfortable in 2018
I have a lot of New Year's wishes, and a few solid goals. Among them is to continue with this blog. I started 19 Streets to keep myself fresh, on top of digital marketing trends, while I am home with my kids. I could blog in the dark forever but it doesn't help it to grow. So, I am sharing it publicly. Albeit with a small group of friends. Regardless, it's uncomfortable.
I love to market brands, ideas, products -- to build a story around something and unearth the really interesting aspects of that story that are exciting to a particular group of people. But I don't really like marketing myself. At all.
That's why this all feels so uncomfortable to me. But the marketing and business greats all profess that discomfort is the key to personal growth, and maybe even success.
Seth Godin says in Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?, "Discomfort brings engagement and change. Discomfort means you're doing something that others were unlikely to do, because they're hiding out in the comfortable zone."
Mark Zuckerberg has said, "The biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that's changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking any risks."
So, bear with me as I figure this out and play with it a bit. Please share your feedback - all of it. Thank you.
