I Eat the Same Thing Every Day
I have often read that very brilliant people have a clothing "uniform" — they simplify their clothing to one outfit, or outfit type, that they wear every single day. The experts say that you will waste less time, save brainpower, and wear something that makes you feel good. Mark Zuckerberg and Barack Obama are just two of the members of this group. They must be doing something right.
I am not sure I am ready to wear the same thing every day, or, really, I haven't found the one outfit I would be happy to wear every day, but I do eat the same thing every day.
It happened innocently enough. My life was a chaos of babies and schedules. I was home full time with three kids under two (plus a kindergartener) and it was hard to find a moment to go to the bathroom, let alone make myself a meal. However, any one of my family members can tell you that I am a person who gets hangry. I am not a good person if I have not fed myself. I needed to simplify.
Thanks to the dietary rigor of a Whole 30 and a helpful post from Cup of Jo, I came to my current and much-loved daily routine of breakfast, lunch and snacks that barely varies day to day. Here's what I do:
Breakfast: I have 3 - 4 eggs, scrambled, with salt and pepper
Mid-Morning Snack: Banana
Lunch: Trader Joe's Southwest Chopped Salad ($2.99!) with either shredded chicken from the slow cooker or avocado (If I have my act together, I make this shredded chicken on a Sunday and have it ready all week long.) If I'm feeling crazy, I might have their new organic Mediterranean Salad kit ($3.99) instead of the Southwest one, but I tend to prefer the Southwest version.
Mid-Afternoon Snack: Apple (sometimes with almond butter) This part of my day is so well-known that even my kids refer to it as "apple:30", as if it were an official time on the clock. :)
Then, we vary it at dinner time based on whatever is on the menu plan.
I once read in Anna Wintour's biography that she ate the same salmon salad every day for lunch. So, I am not totally alone in this, right? In any case, I love my daily food ritual. When life gets crazy, it's nice to have this kind of consistency.
What routines have you created in your life? I'd love to hear.
