A Favorite Gift to Give and Receive
Mother’s Day is around the corner, and as I think about the gifts I’d love to give to my mother and receive as a mother, myself, I keep coming to back to one idea: fresh flowers and a pretty vase.
It sounds simple. Flowers. Obvious. Right? This gift can be so much more than that with a few personal touches.
First, I recommend finding a local florist that can help you put together an artfully arranged bouquet with a few not-so-obvious flowers. My goal is to make it look different from anything you might pick up in a grocery store. Find out which flowers are in season and pick one or two special additions to the bouquet.
If you’re in the San Diego area, check out Native Poppy. They are opening a second location up north in Solana Beach (their first is in South Park), and it is dangerously close to my office. It’s going to be very hard for me not to come home with fresh flowers each week.
Now, the second part to this gift is to find a vase that is not the typical clear glass vase from the florist. Pick a beautiful vase that you can bring to the florist or add your flowers to before gifting them. This gives your recipient something to hold onto long after the flowers are gone.
The vase doesn’t have to cost much to make the gift feel meaningful. Here are a few beautiful options, ranging from $25 to $300. That Mathilde vase from Anthropologie, especially, has caught my eye.
